Installation of BYOD Devices
NOTE: While BroadVoice's goal is to make all BYOD installations as easy as possible, the BYOD option is intended for advanced users. BroadVoice can not provide full technical support for these devices. If your device is not working as expected, you may need to contact the device manufacturer for technical support. For many devices, BroadVoice provides online instructions and tips. Please refer to this information before proceeding. With BYOD devices the user is responsible, under the BroadVoice Terms of Service, for any misuse of the account.

Sipura device: SPA2100

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: If you are using DSL service that requires a User Login and Password entry in order to connect, please review the following information.

In order to upgrade your Sipura 2100 phone adapter to work with the BroadVoice service, you must first do a factory reset. Please follow these instructions to make the necessary configuration change(s):

  1. Confirm that the power supply cord s plugged into the Router & Adapter and delivering power.

  2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the PC port on the Router & Adapter.

  3. Connect the other end of the same Ethernet cable to the Network Interface Card on your PC.

  4. Re-boot your PC.

  5. With a standard analog phone connected to the PHONE1 port of the Router & Adapter, pick up the phone and dial * * * * 7 3 7 3 8 #, then press 1 if asked to confirm.

    • This will push a factory reset of the adapter.

  6. Hang up the phone.

  7. With your PC connected to the PC port of the Adapter, copy and paste the following into the address bar of an Internet browser and click ‘Enter’:

    http://192.168.0.1/admin/upgrade?http://config.broadvoice.com:8080/spa2100-3.2.2g.bin

  8. The light on the box should blink to indicate an upgrade process. Please do not interrupt the blinking process. It is best to wait a full 3 minutes before picking up the phone again.

  9. The Sipura configuration page will turn white with an option to click on either Basic or Advanced. Once the flashing status light has halted completely and is continuously illuminated, click on Advanced.

  10. Click on the Provisioning tab.

  11. In the Profile Rule field, hi-light and delete any of its contents.

  12. Hi-light, copy and paste the following string into the now empty Profile Rule field:

    http://config.broadvoice.com:8080/$MA.cfg

  13. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Submit all Changes.

  14. The screen will turn white with a short message stating “SPA is updating your configuration. Unit may reset” and that the Sipura configuration page will return in 5 seconds.

  15. If the page returns with a request for a User Login and Password, simply click Cancel and return to the Sipura configuration page browser.

  16. Power cycle your Sipura adapter by pulling out the power cord, waiting 10 seconds, and replacing the power cord.

  17. The status light on your Siprua adapter will blink for approximately 60 seconds, please do not interrupt this process by picking up you telephone handset.

  18. When the yellow status and green Phone1 status lights have halted all blinking your adapter should now be fully configured and your phone should now have a dial tone.

Troubleshooting:

If your phone is not receiving dial tone:

  1. Power cycle your Sipura adapter by pulling out the power cord, waiting one minute, and replacing the power cord.

 

Troubleshooting
ISSUE SOLUTION
No Dial Tone Check all connections to the Phone Adapter. Make sure that the green light on the Phone Adapter blinks only when the phone is off hook. If not, ensure that you have an Internet connection. Reboot your equipment.
Phone Does Not Ring Check all connections to the Phone Adapter. Make sure the ring volume on the phone is properly adjusted. Reboot your equipment.
Fast Busy Signal Reboot your equipment.
Can’t Enable DHCP
(Windows 2000, Me, NT)		 Select Start in the Windows task bar. Then select Settings, Control Panel, the Network icon, and the Ethernet Adapter icon (or Local Area Connection). Then select [Properties]. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Write down all of the information provided in the window. Select Obtain an IP address automatically to enable DHCP. Close all windows and reboot the computer.
Can’t Enable DHCP
(Windows 95, 98)		 Select Start in the Windows task bar. Then select Settings, Control Panel, and the Network icon. Select the Configuration tab.Select TCP/IP in the list of network components. Select the appropriate adapter associated with your computer’s Ethernet adapter. Select Properties and write down all of the information in the TCP/IP window that appears. Select Obtain an IP address automatically to enable DHCP. Close all windows and reboot the computer.
Can’t Enable DHCP
(Windows XP)

Select Start in the Windows task bar. Select Control Panel. Then select the Network Connections icon (in Classic View), or select Network and Internet Connections and then Network Connections (in Category View). Right click on the Local Area Connection icon. Then select Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then Properties. Write down all of the information provided in the window.

Select the General tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. Then select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Select the Alternate Configuration tab and make sure that Automatic private IP address is selected. Select the General tab again and select [Advanced]. In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, ensure that DHCP enabled is selected in the IP address section of the IP Settings tab. Do not check any settings in the Default gateways and Automatic metric box sections.
USB vs. Ethernet Port If your broadband provider requires a USB connection instead of Ethernet, you must purchase a USB to Ethernet converter to connect to the Phone Adapter. Most DSL/Cable modems permit use of only one port at a time, either the USB or Ethernet Port. The adapter should be connected to the Ethernet port from the DSL/Cable Modem via the adapter's WAN port and your PC connected to the adapter's LAN port. Use the USB port only if connecting to the adapter's WAN port with a USB to Ethernet Converter.
