BEFORE YOU BEGIN: We recommend that you follow the steps outlined in the Start Guide included with your TalkSwitch CVA unit
BroadVoice utilizes network authentication protocols for the security of your account. Therefore, you will need to input where indicated the 10-digit BroadVoice authentication password provided to you by BroadVoice. It is intended to prevent anyone other than you from making calls at your expense.
- Once your TalkSwitch configuration software is installed, open the software and connect to your TalkSwitch unit. If you experience any issues installing or running the Talkswitch configuration software, please contact Talkswitch at (866) 393-9960.
- Run the Talkswitch configuration software.
- Select System Information from the options in the left hand column, then select IP Configuration.
- If your device is behind a NAT (Network address translation - See Wikipedia for in-depth explanation) you will need to make a change to the following screen. In the Type of public WAN IP for Internet Connection section, change the setting to "static", and then enter the IP address seen in the System IP Settings for Unit 1 IP address into the current public WAN IP address field.
If your device is not behind a NAT, please skip ahead to the next step.

- Now select VoIP Configuration. You will see the following fields.

Fill in the fields on the VoIP Configuration page with the information provided by BroadVoice for your account.
These include:
- Proxy Server Name: sip.broadvoice.com
- Registrar Server Name: sip.broadvoice.com
- Outbound Proxy: proxy-xxx.broadvoice.com where xxx is the location of the optimum server location for you. For example, you would select proxy-lax.broadvoice.com for the Los Angeles location. See "How to select an Outbound Proxy Server" in the next step for details.
- Realm/Domain: sip.broadvoice.com

- New York (proxy-nyc.broadvoice.com)
- Atlanta (proxy-atl.broadvoice.com)

- Los Angeles (proxy-lax.broadvoice.com)
To select the proxy server that works best for you:
- Open up the Command Prompt in Windows (Click on Start and then Run)
- Type in cmd and click OK.
- At the command prompt, type in each Outbound Proxy option individually and pick the one with the smallest average round trip time.

- Proceed to the VoIP Numbers page and enter the phone numbers, User/Account and Password information for your accounts.
- Phone Number: Enter your 10-digit BroadVoice number – Area code, then Number
- User/Account: Enter your 10-digit BroadVoice number
- Password: Enter your authentication Password generated by BroadVoice

- Proceed to the Line Hunt Groups page. Select a Hunt Group to use for accessing BroadVoice service and ensure Line Type is set to VoIP Lines and your VoIP Lines are selected. By default, Hunt Group 88 is configured to access all VoIP Lines.

- By default, TalkSwitch is configured to use the G.729 (lower quality) codec for VoIP calls. To use TalkSwitch with the Broadvoice service, you will need to set the Preferred Codec to G.711. Under Options, go to the VoIP Codec Selection section and change the Preferred Codec setting to G.711 u-law.

- Save settings to TalkSwitch by selecting File from the menu and then Save to TalkSwitch. Place a test call by first dialing the hunt group programmed for BroadVoice. In this example it’s 88. Next, dial a phone number to confirm the system is properly configured.
Ensure you configure the TalkSwitch Call Handling parameters to handle inbound VoIP calls.
See the TalkSwitch VoIP Configuration Guide for more information on configuring VoIP Lines for inbound calls.
