GrandStream BudgeTone Phones

In order to configure your GrandStream BudgeTone telephone to work with your newly enrolled BroadVoice service, please follow these instructions to make the necessary configuration change(s):

In this process, TFTPURL is a required device configuration parameter. Thus you must provide the TFTP server IP address or URL directly to the device by means of the TFTPURL parameter as described in this procedure.

  1. Confirm that your GrandStream device is connected to your local network via an Ethernet (Cat5) cable.
  2. Confirm that the power is plugged into the adapter and delivering power. Four red lights will flash on the phone’s key pad during the boot-up process. Once complete, the phone will display the date and time.
  3. Confirm a successful network connection

The network link or port status light on your cable router/switch/hub will be illuminated or flash with a successful network connection.

  4. Push the MENU button on the BudgetTone phone.
  5. Press the down arrow once or until option [2] IP Addr is displayed.
  6. Press the MENU button again to display the phone’s network IP address.
  7. In a browser type the IP Address provided above into the address bar and then select Enter on your keyboard. Omit any leading zeros in each octet of the IP address. For example, if the BudgeTone displays 192.168.001.025 you should enter 192.168.1.25 in the address bar of the browser.
  8. Enter "admin" in the Welcome to GrandStream Login in dialogue box and then click Login. This will open the GrandStream Configuration page.
  9. Scroll down to the field labeled: TFTP.
  10. Hi-light and/or delete any contents visible in the TFTP fields.
  11. Type the following string of characters into the TFTP fields: 147.135.0.32
    • Place the mouse cursor into the first box and enter "147",
    • press the tab key, then enter "135",
    • press the tab key and enter "0",
    • press the tab key and enter "32".
  12. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Update.
  13. The page will return with a message "Your configuration changes have been saved. They will take effect on next reboot."
  14. Click on the link to "Click to view your changes"
  15. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Reboot.
    • The screen will turn white with a short message as the GrandStream device auto reboots.
    • Four red lights will flash on the phone’s key pad during the boot-up process. Please do not interrupt this process by picking up the phone handset.
    • The reboot process is complete only when the red lights have halted flashing and the date and time are fully displayed on the phone.
  16. Close your browser as the process is complete.
  17. Your GrandStream BudgeTone phone should now be fully configured and your phone should now have a dial tone.
    • Pick up your phone handset to hear dial tone.
    • Place and receive several test calls in order to confirm proper functionality of your GrandStream device and the BroadVoice service.

Troubleshooting

If your phone is not making or receiving calls:

  1. Power cycle or reboot your GrandStream BudgeTone phone by pulling out the power cord, waiting one minute, and replacing the power cord.
  2. Confirm that the device is receiving IP:
    • Press the “MENU” button, press the down arrow until [2] IP Addr is displayed, then press the “MENU” button again.
    • If an appropriate network IP address is not displayed, check all network cabling and/or power cycle your network.
  3. If no IP address is discernable, reboot your entire network including modem, router/switch and the GrandStream phone in that order. If your PC connected to the same network router is receiving IP and can surf the web while your GrandStream phone still does not receive an IP address, replace the Ethernet cabling connected to your GrandStream device.
  4. From your router’s web configuration page, disable Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) settings (if applicable) on your network router if available to do so.
  5. From your router’s web configuration page, open port 5060 for UDP service to the IP address of your Grandstream phone.
  6. Perform a factory reset of your GrandStream BudgeTone telephone by following these steps:
    • Set up the phone to have NO tftp server by pressing the “MENU” button, then press the down arrow until [6] tftp is displayed.
    • Enter 000 000 000 000 and then press the “MENU” button again.
    • Power cycle the BudgeTone phone without being connected to your network via an Ethernet cable.
    • Press the Menu and then the upward arrow key, you will see the Reset option on the LCD. At this point, enter the full 12 digit of the MAC address or Product ID of your phone (printed at the back of your phone). e.g., for "A/B/C", press the "2" button until you see "A" or "B" or "C" appears, for "D/E/F", press the "3" button until you see the corresponding character. Then continue to enter the complete 12 digit of the MAC address. After that, press "MENU" button again. After a brief pause, four red lights in the key pad will flash three times as the phone resets itself.
  7. Contact BroadVoice Customer Care.
