Installation of BYOD Devices
NOTE: While BroadVoice's goal is to make all BYOD installations as easy as possible, the BYOD option is intended for advanced users. BroadVoice can not provide full technical support for these devices. If your device is not working as expected, you may need to contact the device manufacturer for technical support. For many devices, BroadVoice provides online instructions and tips. Please refer to this information before proceeding. With BYOD devices the user is responsible, under the BroadVoice Terms of Service, for any misuse of the account.

In order to configure your Cisco ATA device to work with your BroadVoice service, please follow these instructions to make the necessary configuration change(s):
 
In this process, TFTPURL is a required device configuration parameter. Thus you must provide the TFTP server IP address or URL directly to the device by means of the TFTPURL parameter as described in this procedure.

1. Follow the instructions provided with your Cisco ATA device for proper installation of network, telephone and power cables.
2. Perform a factory reset of your Cisco ATA device to invoke the factory default parameter settings
   • Press the function button on the Cisco ATA.
   • Press the digits 3228 73738 (FACT RESET) then press # on your telephone keypad.
   • Press 3 on your telephone keypad to confirm that you want to reset the Cisco ATA, then hang up the phone.
3. Verify the IP address used by the internal web server on the ATA device through the IVR by depressing the function button atop the box and selecting menu number 80#.
4. You can access the web configuration page from any graphics-capable browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. This provides easy initial access to the Cisco ATA configuration within the administrator's private network. From the PC, open a web browser and enter the following URL: http:/<ipaddress_of_apa>/dev. (Example: http:/192.168.1.101/dev)
5. The figure below shows an example of the Cisco ATA web configuration page, which displays all configurable parameters. The different colors on the screen are for different parameter groupings. The parameters you will need are the Purple ‘Use TFTP’ and ‘TFTPURL’ and the pink ‘Dhcp’.
   
6. Set the Use Tftp parameter to ‘1’.
7. Set TftpURL to ‘147.135.0.32.
8. Set Dhcp to ‘1’
9. Click Apply to save your changes. The Cisco ATA automatically refreshes its configuration. The ATA 186 takes 10 seconds to reconfigure itself.
10. Close the web browser.
11. Pick up the telephone hand set and check for dial tone.

If your Cisco IP phone is not receiving dial tone:

• Power cycle or reboot your Cisco phone by pulling out the power cord, waiting one minute, and replacing the power cord.
• Re-fresh your ATA device. To refresh the Cisco ATA, enter the following command from your web browser: http://< ipaddress>/refresh where ipaddress is the IP address of the Cisco ATA that you are refreshing.
• Make sure that the DHCP server is operating correctly. Note that the function button blinks slowly when the Cisco ATA attempts to acquire the DHCP configuration.
• Confirm that your network protocols allow TFTP transmissions.
• Open ports or port forward 5060 for UDP service on your network router (DHCP server) to the IP address of the Cisco phone.
• From your router, deactivate Stateful Packet Inspection. Refer to the router manufacturer’s official documentation.
• Check proper functionality of all network cables and connections.
• If the green activity LED is not flashing after you connect the Ethernet cable, make sure that both the power cord and the Ethernet connection are secure.
• If there is no dial tone, make sure that the telephone line cord from the telephone is plugged into the appropriate port on the Cisco ATA. Test another phone; if this phone does not work either, there may be a problem with the current configuration or with the Cisco ATA.
• A busy tone indicates that the party you called is not available. Try your call again later. A fast-busy tone indicates that you dialed an invalid number.
• After power up, if the function button continues to blink slowly, the Cisco ATA cannot locate the DHCP server. Check the Ethernet connection and the availability of the DHCP server.
• The DHCP server should show an incoming request from the MAC address listed on the product label or given by the voice prompt.
• Perform a factory reset of your ATA device and re-enter the web configuration steps listed above. To reset the Cisco ATA, enter the following command from your web browser: http://< ipaddress>/reset  where ipaddress is the IP address of the Cisco ATA that you are resetting.
• Confirm the TFTP server parameter IP Address as 147.135.0.32
